We know the struggle to make ends meet is harder now than ever, so Scott & Kat are stepping up to help Drive Away Hunger from our community with their annual Food Drive!
Join Kat on Thursday, March 7 from 4pm – 6pm at Gemini Motors (26 Manitou Dr. Kitchener) as we once again collect Monterey and food donations for The Foodbank of Waterloo Region.
Can’t make it on the day of? Drop off a donation item at Gemini’s Motors any day that week and you’ll be entered in a draw to win some fantastic prizes!
Quick facts about the Food Bank of Waterloo Region:
- The Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s top 3 needed non-perishable food items are canned vegetables, pull-tab cans (soups, stews), and rice.
- For every $1 donated, The Food Bank can provide 2 healthy and nutritious meals to someone in need.
- The food and funds raised during Scott & Kat’s Food Drive will help fill inventory gaps, buy food to meet diverse cultural and dietary needs, keep The Food Bank’s delivery trucks on the road, and support the Community Food Assistance Network.
- The Food Bank of Waterloo Region continues to see the highest need for food assistance in its almost 40-year history.
- 1 in 10 households in Waterloo region is struggling to afford to put food on the table. Three years ago, that number was 1 in 20.
- More than 58,000 people are accessing food assistance from the Community Food Assistance Network—a system of more than 120 agencies and community programs providing food, support, and other essential services to people in need. The Food Bank supports this Network, providing more than 6.8 million pounds of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food each year so that no one in Waterloo region goes hungry.
- Thirty-five per cent of people supported by the Community Food Assistance Network are children under the age of 18. That’s more than 20,000 children living in food-insecure households here in Waterloo region
