Police arrest 33-year-old man after homicide in Wilmot Township

Waterloo Regional Police say officers arrested a 33-year-old man in connection to a homicide that occurred in Wilmot Township early Wednesday morning.

Police say officers were called to a farm on Erbs Road near the town of St. Agatha at around 12:45 a.m. after receiving reports the body of a 35-year-old man had been found in a farm field.

Police say a man was seen running from the area and was later spotted in the Ira Needles Boulevard area of Waterloo.

At around 9 a.m., police arrested a 33-year-old man near Charles Street in Kitchener.

Police believe the victim knew the suspect.

Later in the day, police announced Alex Lopez-Noriega as the man who had been arrested and that the charge was now first-degree murder.
