Travel Advisories and Snow Squall Warnings In Effect for SW Ontario Communities on Tuesday Night

Well, we made it through the first big storm of the winter season. Several communities achieved new snowfall records for the 11th of November, including the city of Kitchener reaching 13 cm, smashing the old record of 7.6 cm of snow back in 1933.

While the big system has moved on to the east, many areas are still under advisories or warnings due to potential snow squalls or lake effect snow.

Environment Canada has issued advisories for Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning for these areas…

Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect for:

  • Guelph – Erin – Southern Wellington County
  • Kitchener – Cambridge – Region of Waterloo

Lake effect snow bands may affect areas well inland from Lake Huron tonight with 2 to 5 cm possible.

Travel may be impacted due to accumulating snow and low visibility in heavy snow.

Snow squall warning in effect for:

  • Mount Forest – Arthur – Northern Wellington County
  • Goderich – Bluewater – Southern Huron County
  • Listowel – Milverton – Northern Perth County
  • Stratford – Mitchell – Southern Perth County
  • London – Parkhill – Eastern Middlesex County
  • Woodstock – Tillsonburg – Oxford County

Lake effect snow squalls weakening Wednesday morning.

Flurries and local snow squalls continue and are expected to persist into Wednesday morning. Local snowfall amounts of near 15 cm are likely tonight into Wednesday morning. Local blowing snow reducing visibilities to near zero will also be a concern.

Local snow squalls are forecast to taper off when the winds shift to southwest later Wednesday morning.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Once again, if you need to travel on Tuesday or early Wednesday morning, please make sure you are prepared and drive safely.
