This summer, 49 young people across Waterloo Region are getting hands-on experience in the local food system, growing food in 6 school and community gardens and helping run 3 weekly Youth Food Markets in Kitchener and Cambridge.
Our 2026 Youth Food Markets begin July 15 and run every Wednesday until August 26. The markets bring together produce grown by youth in local gardens and food sourced from local farm partners. This year, youth Market Leaders have also helped design different Pay What You Choose approaches for their markets, exploring how fresh, local food can be made more accessible while giving young people practical experience in leadership, teamwork and community engagement.
