Message from Biggest Loser contestant Adam...
Monday, February 04, 2008
Hello all. Week three has begun and a lot has changed in my life. Avoiding all the clichés, I would like to start by saying that I have acquired an entirely new lifestyle, or life to be exact. I have implemented as much of the new found knowledge and skills that were given to me to the best of my ability so far and will continue to try to improve upon these as time goes on.
This whole challenge is not easy, no one ever said it was going to be. In fact we were warned that the Popeye's biggest loser challenge was only going to work if we were willing to work hard at it, and yes we are. The 'Soon to be Sexy Six', Biggest loser contestants are a determined bunch. We are working hard, and Goodness knows we have to.
Wes Hodgson of Popeye's Gym organized a grocery store field trip for all the Contestants. During this trip, Wes pointed out many different food items that are not particularly good for a healthy diet, and many more that ARE very good. Surprisingly, or not so surprizingly, the not so good foods were pretty much a culmination of my regular diet, and the healthy foods seemed to be items that I had never seen before! Yet they have always been in the same isles of the grocery store. When the trip was finished, my eyes had been opened to one of contributing factors as to why I am/was fat.
Yes Fat!
I honestly never thought of myself as Fat. I did however think of myself as PHat!! I have always been the Funny Guy, the Outgoing guy, The have a Great time guy, and these awesome characteristics kept me okay with a weight problem I never realized I had. Everyone knows a really good looking guy/girl that are complete jerks, not all good looking people are jerks, thats not my point. When a person refers to these people in conversation they may be described as, "Oh yeah, I know him. He's hot but what a jerk!" I think that when people described me they would say, "oh Adam, yeah he's funny!" and this somehow overshadowed being Fat, but being funny hid nothing for my internet photo.
Many of my friends have seen the photo and they all have the same reaction. "Thats not you" or " Did they squish you or something?" No people, that's what I was once like. I am never going back to that again. This was my scared straight, or my reality check, the shirt that makes me look fat, has nothing to do with making me looking fat, nor is it the mirror that seems to make me look a little wider, it was me all along and it took an internet photo to make me realize this. That part of my life is over, a new life has begun.
I hope everyone who applied on line to enter this contest is trying to change their lives. I saw about 20 people at the quarter finals and heard that there were hundreds that applied. If you were one of those people, than you took your first step, keep going!!!! The first step IS the hardest, but the steps become easier! Your first hour on the tread mill may be grueling and may only garnish a distance of 2 miles, but the next day you get on it, you reach three miles then four! An hour becomes minutes, and miles are allot shorter than the first you ever walked! Its not easy but its worth it! We are all worth it! DO IT!
One belt hole, thats all it takes. The minute you pull that belt a little tighter you realize how the crazy intense workouts the week before make it all worth it! There are no excuses!!! None! I challenge anyone who may think they have an excuse to let me know what it is. We are alive, Lets start Living!!!
Thanks again 915 The Beat and Popeye's Gym!
Adam
